Two classic Coast Salish weaving patterns—gill net and stars—come together in our Star Net Pillow, designed by Squaxin Island artist and carver Andrea Wilbur Sigo. \"Our gill nets are traditionally made of cedar bark, nettles, and other natural fibers,\" shares Andrea, \"and were and are a valuable tool to feed our families and catch fish to barter. The stars in the water are phosphorous (the glow from bioluminescent plankton), which shows itself after a full moon and helps our fisherman. The moon and stars in the sky are tied to the pull of the tide stars underwater: nature\'s way of working together in unity.\" 

That unity is evident in Andrea’s seamlessly-blended design, with her net of stars bordered by a classic weaving pattern known by the names \"Salish Hands\" and \"Salish Fingers\".
