HOT ! Two-Strand Turquoise & Shell Bead Necklace

This double-strand turquoise and shell bead necklace seems to be inspired by a Pueblo jacla. Two strands of graduated green turquoise heishi beads hang on a chain of sterling silver beads, with bright orange glass seed bead accents. The traditional white shell beads hang at the bottom of the turquoise beads, cementing the necklace\'s resemblance to a jacla. These handsome beads fasten with a hook and eye clasp. Circa 1970.

A jacla (Navajo for \"ear string.\") is two loops of turquoise and shell heishi beads that are strung individually and then tied together so they may be suspended from a bead necklace, like a tassel. Originally in the 19th Century, the loops were worn separately as earrings. The earrings were tied to necklaces for storage purposes, and over time jaclas evolved into pendants. The white beads at the bottom of the loops represent corn kernels.

Details.....The necklace is 19\" long. The beads graduate from 3.4mm to 10.8mm in diameter. In Very Good Vintage Condition. You should always expect some wear on your vintage and antique jewels; we consider it part of the charm.
