A luminous Ningxia rug woven in a sophisticated monochrome palette of deep indigo, sky blue, and soft ivory. At the center, a roundel of interlocking fretwork and stylized lotus motifs anchors the composition, surrounded by a generous spray of peonies that bloom across the field in balanced symmetry. The drawing is crisp yet fluid, displaying the gentle curvature and painterly shading characteristic of Ningxia weaving.

The border system is exceptionally rich with meandering key-fret bands, lattice grounds, and auspicious endless-knot emblems that create a layered architectural frame and perfectly offsets the floral interior. The interplay of tone-on-tone blues gives the rug an atmospheric depth, while the pale blossoms seem to float above the field. This effect was made possible by the talented weaver’s use of high-quality wool and subtle gradations of natural dye.

Woven in the late 19th century, this rug reflects the quiet elegance associated with Buddhist temple furnishings and refined domestic interiors of the Qing dynasty. Its scale, restrained palette, and near-painterly composition give it a serene presence suited equally for collecting, display, or modern interiors seeking a timeless grounding element.

In very good almost excellent condition  with limited to no wear for its age.
