the word \"boucherouite\" comes from a moroccan-arabic phrase meaning torn and reused clothing. in the 1960s, as people began to move away from a nomadic way of life, materials like wool and cotton were becoming scarce. berber women began weaving \"rag rugs\" from found textiles and remnants of clothing, striving to make something functional, yet beautiful.
