HOT ! Afghani Hand Knotted Beljik Tribal Rug 3\' X 6\' #1 F*S

This is a vintage Afghani Beljik hand-knotted rug (not tufted, hooked, or machine-made). 50+ years old, woven, and purchased in Afghanistan in the 1960s. The hallmark of the Beljik is its remarkable color, from varying shades of deep reds, blues, and blacks. Beljiks are generally considered to be the finest of all tribal-style rugs. This 3’ x 6’ rug has approximately ½ million knots, all tied by hand. (169 knots/inx 2592 in= 438,000 knots!) The dominant colors here are Burgundy, Ivory, and black. There is blue as well but so dark it is hard to distinguish it from black. It has a natural pile of wool fibers, on a cotton or wool foundation. The knotting of the Beljik rug is the finest of all tribal-style rugs. The wool to make these rugs is only taken from the belly of the sheep.
