This lovely antique Caucasian Memling Gol Kazak rug is a captivating example of tribal artistry from the South Caucasus, woven in the early 20th century. Its design is anchored by a series of stacked, octagonal Memling guls named after the famed Flemish painter Hans Memling, who depicted similar motifs in his 15th-century works. These guls are boldly rendered in crimson red and teal blue, each containing a smaller nested diamond filled with intricate, symbolic motifs.

The field is set against a striking ivory ground, which dramatically frames the guls and enhances their visual impact. Flanking the main field is a wide and richly patterned border filled with serrated diamonds in alternating colour palettes red, indigo, ivory, and gold, creating a rhythmic flow that complements the central layout. Multiple narrow guard stripes filled with rosettes and star motifs provide an additional layer of ornamentation and frame the rug with tribal elegance.
