HOT ! HAND FORGED COPPER CAKE MOULD III

Both the perfect baking tool and gorgeous decorative kitchen item, this cake mould is so pretty that it can be proudly displayed on open kitchen shelving or hung on the wall while simultaneously creating the perfect soft yet crisp bunt cakes. This large yet relatively shallow cake mould, with its flat centre, is ideal for baking cakes that can be layered with delights like whipped cream and fresh fruit. Finished with a round brass hanging loop.

Each cake mould is handcrafted in the northern Italian mountaines at the Navarini workshop, overseen by master craftsman Pierino Navarini. It is the working place of three generations of skilled craftsmen working side by side to create functional objects of beauty. Whether it is the quality of the copper used, the quality of the craftsmanship applied or the quality of the painstaking process of making every item by hand, the Navarini family embody the spirit of true craftsmanship preserving traditional skills and know-how while demonstrating that there can be no shortcuts for quality or substitutes for handmade craftsmanship.

Copper is incredibly efficient at conducting heat. It spreads the heat evenly, allowing ingredients like sugar and butter to melt more quickly and evenly and not to burn. This creates a perfectly cooked soft centre with a crispy crust that remains crisper for longer compared to cakes baked using silicon moulds. Copper on its own is reactive to acid in foods which is why each mould is lined with a very thin inner layer of tin coating to prevent the copper from leaching into the food. 

With time the copper will begin to change in colour and develop a patina, making it all the more beautiful. However, should you prefer the shimmer of polished copper rather than the aged patina that builds up over time, you can polish your copper cake mould in order to preserve its sheen.

Care: Hand wash. The copper can be polished with a soft wet cloth and vinegar, lemon or dishwashing liquid, though we find that the beautiful patina that develops over time is precisely what gives these cake moulds their unique charm.
