HOT ! Carved Antique Shaanxi Kang Table

This unusual table is from the central Chinese province of Shaanxi, home of China\'s ancient capital Xian. The intricate and elaborate carvings on the drawers and spandrels are a common characteristic of furniture from this region, giving the table its distinctive charm. The original lacquer, once a deep red and contrasting black, remains intact but has mostly worn away on the front and top surface of the table. Over time, the lacquer has also developed a unique, crackled patina. The three shallow drawers and two fixed panels below feature thick and detailed relief carvings, displaying repeating floral designs that are also found on the apron. The drawers can be easily removed, revealing the interior space below, which was likely used to store valuable personal items. This one-of-a-kind piece retains its original finish and would make an excellent, full-of-character coffee table today.
