This coffee table features a striking tiled top composed of hand-finished ceramic panels, each decorated with fossil-like organic motifs set against a deep burnt orange ground. The imagery has a geological quality, typical of Juliette Belarti’s work, where glaze reactions and firing techniques create variation across each tile. No two examples are identical.

The tiles are framed within a brushed metal surround and supported by a sculptural chrome base with sled feet. The contrast between expressive ceramic surface and precise metal structure is characteristic of Belarti’s designs.

Juliette Belarti was a Belgian furniture designer active during the mid-twentieth century. Working primarily in the 1950s and 1960s, she produced practical domestic furniture that responded to the changing needs of post- ar European homes.

Belarti is best known for her dining and occasional tables, many of which incorporate carefully engineered extension mechanisms. These designs allowed additional leaves to be stored discreetly within the table frame, enabling the furniture to expand when needed while maintaining a compact form in everyday use.
