This Provençal santon depicts a rabassier, the famous truffle hunter of southern France. Crouching, equipped with his pick, he has just unearthed a black truffle, the coveted \"diamond of Provence.\" Dressed in a wide hat, a colorful scarf, and work clothes, he embodies the authenticity of rural traditions and the Provençal art of living.

The truffle hunter uses his own flair or that of a truffle-hunting animal to locate the precious mushrooms, particularly in the limestone soils of Vaucluse, the leading truffle-producing department in France.

This emblematic character naturally finds its place in the Provençal nativity scene alongside peasants, artisans and other trades of yesteryear.
