About the Mengku Region
Located in Shuangjiang County, Yunnan’s Lincang Prefecture, the Mengku tea region is a leading Pu-erh producer. Situated along the Nanmeng River and framed by Bangma and Ma’an mountains, it is known for ancient Mengku Big Leaf tea trees, with 80% of its gardens over 120 years old. Growing at 1,800–2,750 meters in fertile soil with ample sunshine, these trees yield robust, polyphenol-rich leaves. The region’s 18 villages, divided by the river, produce distinct teas: bold and aromatic from the east, mellow and sweet from the west. Spanning over 2,092 acres, Mengku’s diverse tea plantations are a global tea heritage treasure.
About the Mengku Tea Factory
Founded in 1999 as Shuangjiang Mengku Tea Factory (Mengku Rongshi), this family-run business, rooted in a 1974 state-owned facility, is a top Yunnan Pu-erh producer. Based in Shuangjiang, it specializes in raw (Sheng) and ripe (Shou) Pu-erh from areas like Big Snow Mountain. As Yunnan’s first organically certified tea factory, it emphasizes sustainability. Producing 700–900 tons annually in a 20,000-square-meter facility, it has earned multiple awards, including five gold medals since 2002. Known for recipes like “Wild Arbor King,” its teas offer crisp flavors and excellent aging potential, backed by strict quality control and advanced fermentation.
