Detailed information on Lao Cong Bei Tou Dancong

Origine : Chao Zhou, Guang Dong ProvinceHarvesting area : Feng Huang Town, Feng Xi Village, Dan Hu ethnic villagePlantation altitude : ~800 meters above sea levelHarvesting : Spring 2025Average tree age : 60yoVariety : Bei TouNet weight : 50gr

Bei Tou Xiang Dancong takes its name from its place of origin. Bei Tou refers to a small hollow near a stone monument on the mid-slope behind Dan Hu Village, in the western part of Fenghuang Mountain. The mother tree of this variety grew naturally there, hence the name Bei Tou Xiang. In local classification, Bei Tou Xiang belongs to the “Ye Lai Xiang” (Night-Blooming Jasmine) aroma type. During tea processing, its fragrance fills the entire room—rich, elegant, and unmistakable. This particular batch also comes from old tea trees in Dan Hu Village, tended by the family of our tea master Brother Huang’s cousin.

Many might assume that teas of the “Ye Lai Xiang” type are all intensely floral and sensual. Yet this Bei Tou Xiang reveals a deeper calm. Its floral notes are poised and grounded, its aroma melts seamlessly into the liquor. The aftertaste is full and round, the texture thick and meaty, pure and fluid, carrying the flavor straight and true. After three slow rounds of charcoal roasting, the fragrance of this Bei Tou Dancong has fully merged with the body of the tea. Beneath the gentle warmth of the roast lies a refined blend of floral and fruity tones, laced with a touch of mineral sweetness reminiscent of Shi Ru, and a faint orchid-like grace—high-spirited yet never overbearing.

The Ye Lai Xiang—Cestrum nocturnum, known in Chinese as the “night-blooming jasmine”—is a small white flower of the Solanaceae (nightshade) family that releases its fragrance only after dusk. Perhaps for this reason, Bei Tou Xiang carries a unique nocturnal sweetness—soft, serene, and slightly mysterious. Tasting it at night feels particularly enchanting; the fragrance lingers in the throat, circling gently, refusing to fade. The finish leaves behind a delicate milky note, soothing and long-lasting, inviting the body to unwind. Each sip brings forth a quiet joy from within—a sense of harmony between oneself and the tea.
