Detailed information on No. 156, Tie Luo Han

Tie Luo Han is one of the oldest varieties of Wuyi Rock tea and carries the strength and warmth of its legendary name, Iron Arhat.  The 2025 harvest was grown in the Shui Lian Dong area of Wuyi National Park, where misted cliffs and mineral-rich stone impart the distinctive Yan Yun, otherwise known as the “rock rhyme” so prized in these teas.

The forty-year-old bushes yield resilient, thick leaves that endure a traditional triple roasting to a balanced medium finish. The result is a tea of depth and quiet power smooth and lightly toasty, with a lingering mineral sweetness that speaks of mountain air and ancient stone.

Rich with spiced wood and touched by a gentle trace of charcoal, on the palate the tea reveals its generosity: full-bodied, balanced, and layered with woody spice. A gentle sweetness deepens as it cools. The smooth and enveloping texture reveals a quiet warmth that gathers and lingers. Long after the final sip, a faint mineral sweetness remains, as though the stone and air of Wuyi linger in the cup.

An exceptional Yancha, Tie Luo Han is sourced from a small family garden in the Wu Yi mountains of Northern Fujian. This tea is purchased in small quantities and is a limited edition selection.

The term \'Rock Tea\', or Yancha (yan \'rock\' cha \'tea\') refers to oolong teas from the Wuyi Mountains. The terrain of this mountainous region is rocky, and the terroir imparts a distinct mineral note to the teas.

Harvest: Shui Lian Dong, Wu Yi Shan, Fujian Province, China, May 2025
