I was looking at a 19th century William Morris wallpaper one day and thought to myself, you know the only plants that ever get to be in these wallpapers are the polite plants: the preppy peonies, the straight-laced apples and pompous pomegranates. They\'re neatly in line, they know where they\'re supposed to be and how to look. Neat and tidy.

And I wondered, well what about the less dignified foliage? What about the misbehaving fruits?

This led me to create a small series of twisted paintings and drawings based off floral wallpapers, with slightly melted and skewed motifs. Little critters and diseases hidden in there. If you\'ve ever encountered a Saskatoon bush with that weird growth that gets all over the berries, just picture that kind of scene.
