The fruit of eight years of work, Daniel Rybakken\'s Petit Standard is a study of precision and thoughtful detail. With the aim of creating a highly stackable chair, where the stacking features would truly enhance the design of the chair, Petit Standard merges elegance and functionality into an iconic design. Using die-cast aluminum and steel tubes that fit together into a three-dimensional triangle, the lightweight frame features a distinctive geometric silhouette, offset by the warmth and natural quality of the seat and back in oak wood. The high back and curved seat ensure great comfort, while the rigid tubes optimize the chair\'s strength and stackability, making it ideal for corporate environments, educational establishments and private places
Born in 1984, Daniel Rybakken grew up in Oslo, Norway. He studied design at the Oslo School of Architecture and the Gothenburg School of Arts and Crafts, Sweden, before establishing his own practice in 2008. Rybakken has received numerous awards, including the Red Prize Dot “Best of the Best” in Singapore in 2007; the Anders Jahre cultural prize for young artists in Oslo in 2008; the Design Report award for best designer at the Salone Satellite in Milan in 2009; the Bruno Mathsson Prize in 2011 and the London Design Medal and Golden Chair from the Swedish Association of Architects in 2013. Focused on the power of daylight, his work occupies the zone between art and design, including limited editions, art installations and prototypes for mass production. For HAY, he designed Petit Standard and Arbor, in collaboration with Andreas Engesvik.
The HAY brand was founded in 2002 in Denmark by the couple Rolf & Mette Hay. Inspired by art, architecture and fashion, the Hay couple wanted to produce designer furniture accessible to as many people as possible, reflecting the innovative grandeur of Danish design from the 1950s and 1960s. Hay places design at the center of the home and office with simple, functional and aesthetic products, in collaboration with contemporary artists and designers. Since 2018, HAY has been expanding and developing across the Atlantic by partnering with the American furniture company Herman Miller, whose historical heritage in design is no longer in doubt.
