Detailed information on Hines of Oxford William Morris Strawberry Thief Tapestry Footstool

From Hines of Oxford, fine quality cotton jacquard loom woven tapestry footstool featuring the Strawberry Thief design by William Morris in a blue colourway.

This handmade stool has wood turned bun feet with traditional brass stud detailing.

Measures 35 cm x 35 cm x 15 cm (14\" x 14\" x 6\")

Tapestry fabric is woven in Flanders by master weavers and the stool is Made in England by Hines of Oxford.

Strawberry Thief was designed by William Morris in 1883 with birds drawn by his architect friend Philip Webb. Strawberry Thief was inspired by the Morris family efforts to grow strawberries at their home Kelmscott Manor in the Cotswolds. The family were thwarted by thrushes who would creep under the netting and eat the fruit. Morris insisted that the birds be left undisturbed.
