Greek key bangle dating from the Art Deco period, circa 1920. The design is rendered in a muted, pastel pink enamel which is complemented beautifully by the cool silver tones, and repeats the whole way around the slim band. It\'s hinged one one side allowing it to be worn close against the wrist.
The Greek key, aka the meander or meandros, is a decorative pattern consisting of a continuous line that repeatedly doubles back on itself to form a series of rectangular or square shapes. The motif has been used in Greek art and architecture for thousands of years and has become a popular design element in art and decoration throughout history.
During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Greek key motif experienced a resurgence in popularity due to the influence of classical art and design on the neoclassical movement, a symbol of the enduring influence of classical art and design on Western culture.
