\"Bölgeblick\" won second prize in the pressed glass category of the Karhula–Iittala glass design competition held in 1932.
It was introduced internationally early on, being exhibited in London in 1933, and production began at Karhula in 1934.
In 1936, it won the Grand Prix for exhibition design at the Milan Triennale, and the \"Bölgeblick\" series was awarded a gold medal.
Around 1937, it began to be sold as the \"Aalto\" series, named after its designer.
The name \"Bölgeblick\" is said to be related to \"Café Böljeblick,\" a functionalist building that appeared at the 1930 Stockholm Exhibition, which is considered the starting point of Nordic modern design. It is considered a design born from the rising trend of Nordic modern design at the time.
In Finnish, \"Aalto\" means \"wave,\" and the concentric form, spreading like ripples, is a double meaning that overlaps with the designer\'s name.
The distinctive stepped rings not only beautifully reflect light but also offer the practicality of stacking for storage.
They also serve to conceal air bubbles and wrinkle-like marks often seen in mass-produced glass of the time.
It is one of the representative products of Nordic modern design, with production continuing to this day at Iittala as the \"Aino Aalto\" series.
This item was originally a container for mustard sold by PAULIG, a Finnish food and beverage company founded in 1876.
It was manufactured from 1934 to 1939.
*In good condition with no noticeable damage.
As is characteristic of glass products from the time of manufacture, there may be air bubbles, wrinkles, distortions, and individual differences in size and shape.
While noticeable damage is described, please understand that other minor scratches and scuffs are to be expected given that the item is approximately 90 years old.
As this is a rare item, it has been purchased under different standards than our usual products.
We appreciate your understanding on this matter.
