This delightful \'Loth\' silver collapsible cup was likely made in Germany or the Austro Hungarian Empire during the mid to late 19th century. The engine turned tumbler features a beautifully engraved crest to the centre front of the cup and is likely for the family who it originally belonged to, however is unidentified. To the underside the cup is marked \'V 13\', which is a Loth standard mark, indicating it is manufactured from 812 purity silver (812 of 1000 parts pure) in Continental Europe, most probably in the German/Austrian region. The collapsable cup features the remnants of a gilt wash interior which would have been done to prevent tarnishing on the inside. Loth silver marking was predominately used during the mid to late 19th century, so we can fairly comfortably date manufacture of this collapsable cup to the second half of the 19th century. A really delightful piece of antique engine turned silver which could be used to hold pens and pencils or even toothbrushes.
