From Sketch to Soul: The Maker’s Process

Each Chai charm begins its journey at our San Diego workshop with a graphite sketch on archival paper.

The symbol, though compact, demands perfect symmetry and presence—its twin Hebrew letters must breathe in harmony, even at 10 mm. 

We cast the charm in 14K gold using a meticulously carved wax mold, then polish it to a mirror finish by hand. The next step requires precision and reverence: our diamond setter places each stone—ranging from 1mm to 1.2mm in size—into its micro-prong setting using a microscope, ensuring exact alignment for maximum brilliance. The effect is subtle yet luminous: a sacred word, glowing from within. 

Next comes the curation of emeralds. We sift through parcels of rough-cut stones, seeking only those with a rich, forest-green hue and minimal inclusions. Once selected, each bead is carefully drilled, cleaned, and hand-strung in a balanced pattern so the color gently flows around the neckline. 

When assembled, we test the necklace for both fluidity and strength. The clasp is hand-soldered and tension-tested to guarantee secure closure. Finally, we give the necklace one last polish, infuse it with intention, and place it in a velvet-lined box—ready to meet its wearer.
