HOT ! Long Ombre Necklace with Blues and Greens - Changing Ocean

I am happy with all of the jewellery that I make, but this gemstone necklace is special. When I sat down to make it, I had something entirely different in mind. This design evolved over time into something unique and beautiful.

All of the shades of the ocean are incorporated into this piece, from the darkest teal blue to the palest white-blue. I used london blue topaz, swiss blue topaz, sky blue topaz, pale aquamarine, sea-green fluorite, pale green amethyst and aqua apatite for the gemstones; and both teal and aqua-coloured freshwater pearls. I chose the beads carefully to blend seamlessly from one colour to the next, the entire way around the necklace.

Some of the gemstones are AAA quality, while others are a rougher cut. Some are smooth and others are faceted. The pearls are nugget-shaped, which are flat on one side and rounded on the other. I love the juxtaposition of fine and imperfect, and it makes the piece much more interesting.

There is no clasp on the necklace, which allows you to position it many different ways, highlighting in front the colour that you choose to show. The length of this necklace is approx. 27.5\" (69.8cm) and is considered opera-length. My mannequin is life-sized and should give you an idea as to where the necklace sits. What is Gold-Filled?

Gold-filled is an economical alternative to solid gold. By law, it has 1/20th by weight layer of 14 karat gold permanently bonded over a core of base metal. It is tarnish-resistant, safe for sensitive skin and unlike gold plate, it will not wear off. It is a great way to enjoy affordable gold jewellery.
