Graceful and luminous, the Fortuna Antiqua Necklace celebrates the rare beauty of authentic Ancient Roman glass nearly 2,000 years old. This delicate piece from The Patina Collection features remarkable Roman glass beads shaped in soft quatrefoil forms—resembling four-leaf clovers—each one displaying the shimmering mineral patina created after centuries buried beneath the earth.

Subtle tones of seafoam, pale aqua, soft champagne, and gentle rose move throughout the strand, while flashes of iridescence appear as light catches the glass. These delicate surfaces were formed naturally as minerals interacted with the glass over nearly two millennia, creating the unmistakable patina that makes Roman glass so prized.

Each bead has been carefully hand-strung by designer Diana Kauffman, allowing the organic shapes and luminous surfaces of the ancient glass to remain the focal point of the design. Diana spent more than thirteen years collecting these increasingly rare Roman glass beads, making every piece in this capsule exceptionally limited.

The necklace is finished with a hand-forged sterling silver clasp shaped as a quatrefoil, echoing the historic motif found within the glass beads themselves. This sculptural clasp functions both as a secure closure and as a thoughtful design element that complements the ancient forms.

The quatrefoil—long associated with good fortune, harmony, and protection—adds symbolic meaning to these already historic materials.

Each Roman glass bead carries its own mineral markings, subtle color shifts, and iridescent patina, ensuring that no two necklaces in this collection are ever exactly alike.
