HOT ! Lounge chair in grey fabric and wood by Gijs van der Sluis, 1960s

In the 1960s, Dutch design explored a warm modernism, where the rigor of the lines is balanced by the quality of the materials. This lounge chair is a particularly apt illustration of this.

Attributed to Gijs van der Sluis , it combines a black-stained wooden frame with solid wood armrests in warmer, subtly satiny tones. The design is straightforward: straight legs, strong horizontal lines, and low, inviting proportions. The generously padded seat and back are upholstered in a textured gray fabric that underscores the overall simplicity.

The condition is very satisfactory. The fabric holds its shape well, with slight signs of wear consistent with its age. The frame is stable; a few discreet marks on the wood attest to its authenticity without detracting from its elegance.
