A beautiful 1940s Crown Trifari necklace signed “Trifari, Corp., Pat. Pend.”, indicating an early design awaiting patent approval. A hallmark often associated with Alfred Philippe’s work for the house. Philippe, previously a designer for Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, brought fine-jewellery techniques to Trifari, and this piece has all the hallmarks of his style: graceful lines, layered metalwork and sparkling, well-set rhinestones.
The central motif has a soft, naturalistic feel, almost like a stylised grape cluster or berry spray. A theme Philippe revisited often in the 1940s. The rhinestones are bright and lively, giving the necklace a refined yet wearable glamour.
A wonderful example of mid-century Trifari artistry and an elegant statement on the neckline.
